Preparation for Ice fishing

This month's meetings have been mostly taken up with preparations for an ice fishing adventure. We moved the camp-out from the 22nd to the 29th so that several more boys would be able to come. Now we have the ice fishing followed by the klondike derby only one week later.

We plan to have a good time with the ice. We learned about dressing for warmth in cold weather, the advantages of different types of cloth, how layering our clothes helps up stay warm when we are active and more.

Next month we will have a scout sunday on February 13. We are also planning a parents night for february 9. look for more details soon.

December roundtable success

We enjoyed an interesting and useful roundtable on wilderness survival this month.
We played a game of moon ball (see the Troop program resources book for details).
Patrol 5 led an interesting song/game, the nursery rhyme challenge, also known as the "threw it out the window song". Patrols take turns singing the first few lines of a nursery rhyme, then switch to the chorus -- they threw it out the window, the second story window... When a patrol runs out of new nursery rhymes to sing they are out of the contest. The last patrol in wins.

We look forward to next month's roundtable on communications. We will have presentations ranging from getting press coverage to silent signaling. We hope to see you there.

Upcoming activities

Hobbies is the theme for December. We hope to do the Art and Music merit badges as well as learn about a number of interesting hobbies.

Sounds like fun.

November meetings

In November we got an introduction to the entrepreneurship merit badge. Scouts who are interested presented business plans and got feedback from scout leaders. They are reviewing their plans and they will present them again when they meet the requirements for the merit badge. After the plans are approved, the scouts can start the business and earn the entrepreneurship merit badge.

Centennial Merit badge weekend

In october we had a centennial merit badge weekend. We met at the church and did the carpentry and pathfinding merit badges. Matt, William and Dallen attended and earned both merit badges. There were some good woodworking projects and a nice map as a result of the work.

Ok, Now I am officially out of touch for the fall as well. But at least I know that no one is reading the blog. :)
